Gunung Ledang (Mount Ophir)

The climbing team is planning to hike up Mt Ophir. It's situated between Malacca and Johor so one can start their ascend from either State.

It's gonna be a long 1 day trip as it takes about 5 hours to summit and probably 4 hours to descend. The date is set on a Saturday, 4th of October, 4th day of Hari Raya (Muslim celebration after the fasting month).

This is what the schedule look like on the the planned date.

4:00 AM - Meet in Seremban
4:30 AM - Leave Seremban
6:00 AM - Breakfast at Tangkak/Sagil
7:00 AM - Start Hike
1:00 - 2:00 PM - Summit
6:00 - 7:00 PM - Foothill
7:30 PM - Dinner
8:30 PM - Head Back o Seremban

I goggled articles on Mt Ophir to have a feel of what it's like to climb this mountain and also to check whether there are leeches or not. (Of course there are!!! Hello!! This is Malaysia). There are many interesting commentaries and I found this to be the best. Click here.

The estimated cost for this trip per person is RM100. This would include the guide fees, toll, petrol and insurance taking up the bulk of the cost.

Now the question is, should I or should I not go?

Con - LOTS of LEECHES
Rope section
9-10 hours hike. My poor knees
Rainy season - muddy and yucky

Pro - Haven't been before.
Test my endurance.
Exercise.

What else? Looks like the "cons" are more than the "pros".

I also googled for leeches at Ophir but could hardly find any...

The estimated cost will probably be much lower than RM100; (guide 14, entrance fee & permit 10, insurance 2, tol & petrol 30), balance is food.

The rope section will be fun and challenging...there are such things as knee guards, we will pray for fine weather, i will be your leech exterminator..ahaha..

oops, where have all the cons gone??

Let's summit a new peak... :-)
